First I need you to understand that, as a blogger, you own and run what is essentially a collection of your thoughts and musings. These, in and of themselves, will not make you money.

All Bloggers that are Successful, in the monetary sense, are salespersons first, and bloggers second.

Let me say this in a different way:

You, in your capacity as a blogger, bring in and grow an audience; you, again, this time wearing your salesperson’s hat, sell to this captive audience.

This is nothing new though. Free television broadcasters make their money in this way. When airing a particular show, advertisers who may want to advertise to this kind of captive audience air their advertisements at this time; the television show does not, in and of itself, make money for the broadcaster. The television broadcaster is willing to pay for the show, knowing that it will attract a certain kind of audience. They can then sell airtime to advertisers that may wish to interact with this audience and make their money in this way.

The same is true with radio stations. YouTube is also able to pitch to potential advertisers the guarantee of a niche audience to whom they can advertise their products or services. Facebook, knowing quite a bit of information about you and your dispositions, essentially makes its money in the same way.

As a blogger, you should think of making money in the same way, only, you will wear both hats, the content provider (like television, radio, YouTube, Facebook), and the advertiser.

Ways to Make Money with Your Blog

There are several ways to make money as a blogger. I would suggest only looking at how to do this at this stage of your prelaunch journey, after you have selected your blogging niche, so as not to compromise the quality of your content while chasing money.

There are five main ways to make money through your blog

• Paid Ads: Getting paid by advertisers to advertise to your readers
• Sponsored Posts & Brand Partnership Agreements: Being paid to blog about something in particular
• Affiliate Marketing: Promoting other people’s products on your blog
• Creating & Selling Products: Promoting your own products on your blog (namely: Printables, E-Books, Digital or Physical Products)
• Promoting Your Own Specialized Service Offering: Using your blog to earn the trust of your clientele and increase your client base

This is More Important than Knowing How to Make Money With Your Blog

It is okay to start your blog without knowing how you will make money. What you should not do is launch your blog without a system in place to collect email addresses from your readers. Your e-mail list is the lifeblood of your business as a blogger. You may not know how you will make money from this list in the beginning of your blogging journey, and that’s perfectly fine, but if you want to make money blogging, your income will correlate to the strength of your email list.
