4:                  It’s Time to Start Your Own Blog

5:                  The Best Ways to Make Money with Your Blog

There are a myriad of things that could go wrong when you start your own blog. If you are an entrepreneur or have ever been in business, like I have, you will know that tools like a business plan and cash flow projections are anecdotal at best. You cannot use these to project the success, or failure of your venture. Blogging is no different.

The biggest pitfall that newbie bloggers fall into by far is assumptions. Just like it is not smart to put up shop and start selling tomatoes, and expect the masses to flock simply because you have decided to start selling tomatoes. As much as a blog is about your musings, you should not assume everybody wants to listen to what you have to say.

Find out What Your Niche Audience Wants to Hear About

Rather than selling tomatoes, your favorite product, sell what you can relate to that is already being sold. After people have started to buy from you, you can start to sell them your tomatoes. They will most likely buy them from you at this point.

Now that you have chosen your niche, find out what people want to know about within your niche and give it to them.

The other, most important thing you need to realize off the bat is that Google does not care that you have just started your blog. They will not be sending any traffic your way for a very long time, if ever. You will need to do that yourself. The great news is that you don’t have to pay for it, but more about that tomorrow.

If You Don’t Know, Ask Them

Last point for the day: Let’s look at a scenario:

If you wanted to know how men (or women) think, would you interview 10 of them or 100 of them?

I am guessing your answer is: “The Latter.”

This analogy is hugely important because, as a blogger, adjusting and tweaking is a big part of your life. The higher the volumes of data you have access to, the easier it is for you to see how the changes that you make affect your blog. Having an abundance of data will also help you tremendously when you are troubleshooting.

This being said, you need to make sure that you do everything you can to drive volumes of traffic to your blog. Even if this traffic does not translate into income, you are still in a great position because you can make minor changes and see if your situation improves. Also, when you have the volumes, you can just be direct and ask your visitors what they would like to see to have a better experience with your blog.

Have fun thinking about what we learned in this lesson.

See you in a very exciting final lesson, The Most Efficient Ways to Get Traffic to Your Blog.

Take care!

About Me

Personal Finance & Entrepreneurship

Mechanical Engineer,
turned Financial Advisor,
turned Personal Finance Blogger.

I learned early on in my career that it doesn’t matter how much money you make if you don’t know how to spend it and make it work for you.

Reading about personal finance, business and entrepreneurship became my passion. I knew that if I wanted to be successful, I would need to learn how to sell.

I quit my engineering to become a Financial Advisor, earning on commission only, to learn about money.

Here, I share what I have learned with you.
