Experiencing different beaches, being ensconced in different languages and cultures, tasting different cuisines, and more popular in recent years, taking epic photographs at globally iconic locations to upload onto social media – whatever your motivation, we all wish to travel, at least at some point in our lives.

Our planet is big. Living your entire life without getting to see all of its beauty is a tragedy. I would encourage you to try your level best to travel, and ultimately, travel abroad, at least once in your life.

Then comes the daunting reality that we have all learned to live with, often not even realizing that it does not ALWAYS have to be this way. Visas are a bore. They can put quite a damper on your prospects of travelling.

With the average cost of a visa ranging from $96 to $320, this process can significantly affect your travel budget. More than this, and those who have read several of my blog posts know how I feel about time, it can take anything from one to four weeks (or more) to successfully apply for and receive your visa. Wow! That’s a long time. The fact that the wait is measured in weeks (trips to Venezuela require visa three months in advance) a source of great frustration for me. So much can happen in a matter of weeks.

Luckily, there are several great destinations you can travel to, WITHOUT a visa. I have compiled a list of over 100 that you can travel to TODAY.

Traveling to South & Central America

Being part of the same continent, it is easy to understand how traveling through these territories is generally easy.

• Antigua (180 days)
• Argentina (90 days)
• Bahamas (240 days; Passport valid for three months after you leave)
• Barbados (180 days)
• Barbuda (180 days)
• Belize (30 days; Passport valid for six months after you leave)
• Brazil (90 days)
• Bolivia (30 days with allowable extension to 90 days)
• British Virgin Islands (Six months of passport validity)
• Cayman Islands (Passport valid for six months after you leave)
• Chile (90 days)
• Colombia (90 days)
• Costa Rica (90 days)
• Dominican Republic (30 days)
• Ecuador (90 days)
• El Salvador (90 days)
• Falkland Islands (30 days)
• Grenada (90 days with allowable extension to 180 days)
• Guatemala (90 days)
• Guyana (30 days; Passport valid for six months after you leave)

Traveling to Europe

Sometimes there is a novelty that can be derived from actually leaving your continent. Europe is generally ready to welcome you. The great news is that over quite a large territory you are able to do this and gain entrance to a country just as easily as you would to, say, Mexico.

Being an American citizen, the single problem when travelling in parts of Europe is that you must conform to the guidelines of the Schengen Area – which comprises 26 European nations. You are only permitted to vacation visa free for up to 90 days within the entire Schengen Area, within a 180 day period.

This is quite the restriction if you, like me, are a nomad at heart. That being said, here are some European nations that are not part of the Schengen Area that will allow you to visit them visa free.

• Albania (90 days within 180 day period)
• Bosnia and Herzegovina (90 days within 180 day period)
• Bulgaria (90 days within 180 day period)
• Croatia (90 days within 180 day period)
• Cyprus (90 days within 180 day period)
• Georgia (90 days within 180 day period)
• Ireland (90 days)
• Kosovo (90 days with 180 day period)
• Macedonia (90 days within 180 day period)
• Moldova (90 days within 180 day period)
• Montenegro (90 days within 180 day period)
• Romania (90 days within 180 day period)
• Serbia (90 days within 180 day period)
• UK (180 days)
• Ukraine (90 days within 180 day period)

Traveling to Africa

The biggest thing to consider when looking into the prospect of traveling without a visa is the purpose of your visit to the country in question. If your reasons for traveling there are purely for vacation purposes, you have nothing to worry about. If your reasons may include anything more than your vacation, however subtle, it may to a good idea to look into this country’s policy regarding this kind of visit.

Some countries will allow you to apply for a visa online. This is not as great as traveling without a visa, but it’s something.

There are also some countries that will allow you to enter even if you don’t arrive visa in hand, affording you the opportunity to apply for one upon your arrival. I will start off by listing these countries in alphabetical order:

• Egypt (North East Africa; links Africa to the Middle East)
• Ethiopia (East Africa)
• Madagascar (island, off Northeast coast of Africa)
• Tanzania (East Africa)
• Uganda (East Africa)

The SADC (South African Development Community) region will generally welcome your “visaless” self with open arms. Some other countries will afford you the same hospitality. Here are some countries (again, in alphabetical order) to which you can travel entirely without a visa:

• Botswana (Southern Africa) (90 days within 365 day period)
• Cape Verde (off Northwest Coast of Africa) (Visa upon arrival)
• Comoros (East Africa)
• Gabon (Central Africa) (Visa upon arrival)
• Malawi (Southeastern Africa) (visa upon arrival)
• Mauritius (Indian Ocean Island)
• Morocco (North Africa) (90 days; Passport valid for six months after you leave)
• Namibia (Southern Africa) (90 days with 365 day period)
• Rwanda (East Africa) (90 days; Tourist visa)
• Saint Helena (Island in the Atlantic Ocean; West of Angola) (passport valid for more than 6 months)
• Senegal (West Coast, Africa) (90 days)
• South Africa (30 days; must apply for extension up to 90 days within first 30 days)
• The Seychelles (Archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean, off East Africa) (30 days)
• Swaziland (now eSwathini) (Southern Africa) (14 days)
• Tunisia (North Africa) (90 days; passport valid for three months after you leave)
• Zambia (East Africa) (90 days; Visa upon arrival)
• Zimbabwe (Southern Africa) (90 days; Visa upon arrival)

Traveling to Asia

Next, at 18 countries, we have Asia.

Asia, earth’s largest and most populated continent has a lot to offer. Many parts of Asia are also quite affordable to travel to.

Asia also has two countries that will allow you to apply for a visa upon your appearance. These countries are:

• Bangladesh
• Nepal

Without having to apply for a visa, you may visit:

• Armenia (180 days)
• Brunei (90 days)
• Hong Kong (90 days)
• Indonesia (30 days)
• Japan (90 days)
• Kazakhstan (30 days)
• Kyrgyzstan (60 days)
• Macau (30 days)
• Malaysia (90 days)
• Maldives (30 days)
• Mongolia (90 days)
• Philippines (30 days)
• Singapore (90 days)
• South Korea (90 days)
• Taiwan (Republic of China) (90 days)
• Thailand (30 days, arrival by land; 14 days, arrival by land)
• Timor-Leste (East Timor) (passport valid for six months)
• Vietnam (30 days)

Traveling to Oceania

Oceania is the name given to the group of islands spread all over most of the Pacific Ocean. Oceania is a geographic area encompassing:

• Australasia
• Melanesia
• Micronesia, and
• Polynesia

Boasting ten regions for you to visit, visa free, this is the next most American friendly zone that you can visit when you get the chance. If you love the feeling of being on an island, you can check out:

• Cook Islands (31 days extendable by two months at a time)
• Fiji (4 months)
• Federated states of Micronesia
• New Zealand (90 days)
• Niue (passport valid for 6 months after arrival)
• Palau (365 days; passport valid for six months upon arrival)
• Samoa (90 days)
• Tuvalu (30 days; Visa upon arrival)
• Vanuatu (30 days)

Traveling to the Middle East

The Middle East has not welcomed us as much as Europe have.

You may also travel freely, without a visa, to these three countries:

• Israel (90 days)
• Palestine

Traveling to the Rest of the World

The rest of the world requires you to apply for a visa before you give them a visit.

This being said, 100+ is a whopping number of countries for you to be able to visit without a visa. You can be grateful to your leaders that this has been made possible on your behalf.
